Friendly ghosts, smiling pumpkins, and not a single scary page: this free 12-page Halloween Activity Book is made for preschoolers who are excited about the holiday but still learning to hold a crayon the right way. It is picture-based from front to back, so 3- and 4-year-olds can do it with minimal help.

The booklet starts with Find the Odd One Out, where kids color the picture that is different. Counting comes next — color the right number of Halloween pictures — followed by Match the Pairs, where they draw a line between two pictures that are the same. The Halloween Maze asks them to help a ghost find its pumpkin. One More, One Less has children draw one less on the left and one more on the right, a simple but powerful early-math idea. Color and Trace works on line control, Connect the Dots from 1 to 10 reveals a surprise to color, and Mirror Drawing closes the book by finishing the other half of a pumpkin.

In the middle there is an Activity page: go to Mokifun and play Pumpkin Smash, then write your score in the box. It is a quick, silly game that fits the theme and gives little ones something to look forward to after the paper pages.

Skills at this level: counting to 10, matching and visual discrimination, comparing "more" and "less," number order, symmetry, and the fine motor practice that comes before writing letters. Preschool teachers can use it for a Halloween party table, a themed center, or a calm-down activity after the costume parade.

At home it is perfect for the week before Halloween, when excitement is high and you need a quiet 20 minutes. Print on regular US Letter paper in black and white — kids will color everything anyway — and print one copy per child so nobody has to share the maze.
