Halloween Activity Book for 1st Grade โ Free Printable
A black cat trying to get home, a code made of spooky symbols, and a word search with a hidden secret word: this 12-page Halloween Activity Book turns beginning reading into a treasure hunt. It is written for 6- and 7-year-olds who can read short sentences and are proud to do a whole booklet by themselves.
The first page is Halloween Fun Facts โ a handful of simple sentences about pumpkins, costumes, bats, and trick-or-treating. The rest of the book depends on it: the Word Scramble uses words from the facts, the Code Breaker (each symbol stands for a letter) spells out sentences from it, and the Word Search hides the same vocabulary, with the leftover letters spelling a secret word.
In between the reading puzzles there are lighter pages. The Halloween Maze asks kids to help the cat get home. Mirror Drawing has them complete the other half of a ghost. A Patterns page asks them to find the rule and fill in the empty box, and a Matching page has them connect Halloween things that go together.
The online tie-in is Word Race. The Activity page says "Go to mokifun.com and play: Word Race" โ kids play Word Race on Mokifun, see how fast they can find the words, and write their score in the booklet. It is a natural follow-up to the word search and a nice reward.
Skills practiced: reading comprehension, letter-sound knowledge, spelling and letter order, following directions, visual scanning, symmetry, and pattern recognition. First-grade teachers can use it as independent work during Halloween week or as a quiet option at a class party; at home it is good for the countdown to October 31 or a rainy fall afternoon.
Print on US Letter in black and white โ the ghost, maze, and matching pictures are meant to be colored. Print one copy per child so each reader gets their own code to crack.
