Winter Activity Book for 1st Grade — Free Printable
First graders are just starting to read on their own, and this free 12-page Winter Activity Book is built around exactly that. It opens with a page of Winter Fun Facts written at a beginning-reader level, and several of the puzzles that follow pull their answers straight from those facts, so kids have a reason to read carefully.
The word puzzles come first. In the Word Scramble, children unscramble winter words like the ones from the facts page. Code Breaker gives each symbol a letter; crack the code and a winter sentence appears. The Word Search hides the same vocabulary, and the leftover letters spell a secret word — a satisfying payoff for finishing every word.
In between there is a Winter Maze where a skater needs to find the hot cocoa, a Mirror Drawing of a snowflake star to complete, a Patterns page where kids find the rule and fill in the empty box, and a Matching page that pairs things that go together.
One Activity page links to Mokifun: kids play Word Race and write down how fast they found the words. It makes a fun bridge between paper and screen, and the score box turns it into a personal best to beat.
Skills covered: reading short informational text, sight words and winter vocabulary, spelling, letter-symbol substitution, pattern recognition, symmetry, and following a path with a pencil. It suits a 1st-grade winter literacy center, a sub-folder, morning work in January, or a snow-day packet at home.
Print on US Letter in black and white; the maze and mirror drawing are made for coloring afterward. Because the Code Breaker and Word Search depend on a fresh grid, print one copy per child rather than sharing.
