First graders are just starting to read on their own, and this 12-page Fall Activity Book is built around that milestone. It starts with a page of Fall Fun Facts — short, easy sentences about leaves, squirrels, pumpkins, and harvest time — and every puzzle that follows draws its answers from those facts. Kids read, remember, and then use what they learned.

What it practices: reading comprehension at a 1st-grade level, spelling and letter order, sight-word recognition, following multi-step directions, visual scanning, patterns, and symmetry. Nothing requires an adult to explain, which makes it a strong choice for independent work, a substitute-teacher folder, or a fall-break activity at home.

Print on US Letter paper; black and white is fine since the mazes, leaf, and mandala-style details are meant to be colored. Print once per child so everyone gets their own code to crack and their own secret word to find. Slip it into a folder with a pencil and a few crayons and you have an instant rainy-day kit.
