Third grade is when multiplication moves in, vocabulary gets richer, and kids start to enjoy logic puzzles for their own sake. This free 14-page Fall Activity Book leans into all three. It is designed for 8- and 9-year-olds to complete on their own — at a desk, at the kitchen table, or in the back seat on the way to the pumpkin patch.

The booklet opens with a page of Fall Fun Facts. Kids need to read it closely, because the Word Scramble, the Matching page (match each fall word to its meaning), and the Word Search all take their answers from there. The Word Search has a bonus: the leftover letters spell a secret word.

On the math side there are three puzzles. Secret Message has students solve problems and use the answers to crack a code. Math Snake is a winding chain of problems where each answer feeds the next — solve them all and color the snake. The Math Pyramid asks kids to fill in boxes where every box is the sum of the two below it. Add a full 9×9 Sudoku (every digit from 1 to 9 once in each row, column, and box), a Tic-Tac-Toe page for two players, and a fall Mandala to color, and there is plenty to keep a fast finisher busy.

Two Activity pages connect the paper to the screen. The first says "Go to mokifun.com and play: Math Monkey" — kids play Math Monkey on Mokifun and write down how many problems they got right. The second sends them to play Word Race and record how fast they found the words. Both make a great "when you finish" reward.

Skills practiced: reading comprehension, vocabulary and definitions, spelling, addition and multiplication fluency, deductive reasoning, and perseverance on longer puzzles. It suits fall centers, indoor recess, homeschool units on autumn, and fall-break packets equally well.

Print on US Letter in black and white — the mandala, snake, and maze-style pages are meant to be colored anyway. Print one copy per child so each Sudoku and code stays a fresh challenge.
