By 3rd grade, kids want puzzles that feel like real puzzles. This free 14-page Winter Activity Book delivers: a full 9×9 Sudoku, a Math Snake that stretches across the page, and a Secret Message that only opens up when every problem is solved correctly. Everything prints on regular paper and is designed for independent work.

A page of Winter Fun Facts anchors the book. The Word Scramble uses vocabulary from it, the Matching page asks kids to match each winter word to its meaning, and the Word Search hides those words again with the leftover letters spelling a secret word.

Math takes three shapes. In Secret Message, students solve problems and use the answers to crack a code. Math Snake is a long chain of problems winding down the page — solve every link and color the snake. The Math Pyramid has each box equal to the sum of the two below it, with several boxes left blank. For logic there is the 9×9 Sudoku (every digit from 1 to 9 once in each row, column, and box), plus a Tic-Tac-Toe page for two players with room to track who wins the most games. A Winter Mandala is there for coloring when brains need a rest.

Two Activity pages link to Mokifun. First, kids play Math Monkey and write down how many problems they got right. Later they play Word Race and record their time. Both score boxes make an easy class challenge: who can beat their own score before winter break?

Skills covered: reading comprehension, vocabulary and word meanings, spelling, addition and multiplication fluency, logical deduction, and persistence on a longer puzzle. Use it as a January morning-work packet, a sub-folder staple, an indoor-recess option, or a homeschool winter unit.

Print on US Letter in black and white. The snake and mandala are meant to be colored, so no color ink is needed. Give each child their own copy so every Sudoku is a fresh challenge.
