Crunchy leaves, a hedgehog looking for a mushroom, and an acorn or two: this 12-page Fall Activity Book gives preschoolers a gentle first taste of pencil-and-paper puzzles. Every page uses big, friendly pictures and almost no reading, so a 3- or 4-year-old can work through most of it with just a little help from a grown-up.

Here is what your child will find inside:

• Find the Odd One Out — spot and color the picture that is different
• Counting — color the right number of fall pictures
• Match the Pairs — draw a line between pictures that are the same
• Fall Maze — help the hedgehog find the mushroom
• One More, One Less — draw one less on the left and one more on the right
• Color and Trace — color the picture and trace the lines neatly
• Connect the Dots from 1 to 10 — then color in the hidden picture
• Mirror Drawing — finish the other half of the mushroom

These activities quietly build the skills Pre-K teachers care about most: counting to 10, telling same from different, one-to-one correspondence, early number sense with "one more, one less," and the fine motor control needed for tracing and drawing. The maze and the mirror drawing are especially good for hand-eye coordination and pencil grip.

There is also a game page that sends kids to play Falling Leaf on Mokifun and write down their score. It makes a nice reward after a few worksheet pages and turns a little bit of screen time into something purposeful.

Print tips: the PDF is laid out for US Letter paper and looks great in black and white, so no color ink is needed — the kids add the color themselves. Print one copy per child and staple along the left edge to make a small booklet. It works just as well at the kitchen table on a rainy October afternoon as it does in a preschool fall center.
