The days before Christmas are long when you are 3 or 4. This free 12-page Christmas Activity Book gives preschoolers something festive to do at the table while the grown-ups wrap presents — and every page can be explained in a single sentence before crayons take over.

It starts with Find the Odd One Out: kids find and color the one Christmas picture that is different. On the Counting page they color exactly the right number of pictures, and in Match the Pairs they draw lines between the items that are the same. The Christmas Maze asks them to help the snowman find the Christmas tree from start to finish.

Number sense continues with One More, One Less — draw one fewer on the left and one more on the right. Color and Trace is a slower page for tracing lines neatly and coloring the scene, and Connect the Dots runs from 1 to 10 to reveal a hidden Christmas picture. The book ends with a Mirror Drawing where kids complete the other half of a Christmas tree.

One Activity page invites children to play Christmas Lights on Mokifun and write their score in the box. It is short, cheerful, and gives a little one the feeling of having finished the whole book.

Skills practiced: counting to 10, comparing amounts, spotting differences, matching, tracing, and symmetry. Use it during a preschool Christmas party, on the first day of holiday break, at a family gathering where the kids need a quiet corner, or in the car on the way to visit relatives.

Print on US Letter paper in black and white. All the pictures are outlines meant to be colored, so a plain printout is exactly right. Big shapes and wide lines suit chunky crayons and small hands.
